FAQ

Do you have questions about how the United Way of Logan County is operated or how your donation works for within our community?  Hopefully we can answer those questions and others with the following. If you have other questions, we would like to hear from you. Please feel free to email us at Logan County United Way with your questions.

How is money raised used for administrative and advertising expenses?

The United Way Board of Trustees has mandated that administrative expenses must be no more than 15% of total dollars raised in a campaign. In 2002 our administrative overhead and fundraising expenses were 13.9%. What is even more important is that these fund-raising costs are far below what they would be if the agencies United Way supports tried to raise their own dollars. The economies of scale in one universal campaign make this a far more effective fun-raising mechanism.

If I donate to United Way will all my money stay in the County?

All donations made in Logan County stay in Logan County and support our community service agencies. Unless, a donor requests the money to be sent out to a United Way in another county.

Is my donation divided up amongst all the agencies, even though I do not like one United Way Agency?

United Way of Logan County helps support 27 health and human agencies. Not every agency will appeal to or be used by every person, but one must realize that by not giving to United Way, they are penalizing all agencies, not just the one they don't like. When you donate you are able to specifically designate to an agency of your choice.

Why should I give? I don't use the services.

You may not use any of the services now, but can you be sure you will never have occasion to use them? Stop and consider the tremendous range of services provided by United Way agencies; most of us will use them some time in our lives. In fact, one of every three-area residents has been touched by a United Way funded services. The fact these agencies are meeting the needs of many in our community helps to assure this will be a better place to live and work.

I can't afford to give to the United Way.

We are all feeling that there is less disposable income to give to charity during these uncertain economic times. The people who feel it most are the health and human services agencies. There is less money being allocated yet there are more people turning to them for assistance. We must examine our own situation and make a choice. Through the United Way campaign we have the opportunity to spread our generosity throughout the entire year. By utilizing payroll deduction you can have a small amount taken each pay period. This will work year-round to help support the important work of United Way agencies.

I feel like I'm being pressured to give to United Way.

Giving is a personal choice. The goal of United Way is to educate and show the great need for support. During the campaign we want to make sure that people are making well-informed decisions and every individual is given the opportunity to participate. United Way hopes people are contributing because of an understanding of the critical need of our community.

How does a person qualify for help from the United Way?

Individuals receive help from the agencies that United Way funds. None of the United Way's funds are paid directly. The money raised during the United Way campaign is allocated to local agencies responding to local needs. A committee of community volunteers carfully evaluates the agencies proposals and makes recommendations to the all-volunteer Board of Trustees on how the money raised should be divided. They also monitor the performance of the agencies year-round. No money is directly given to individuals through United Way.

Why would someone be turned down from help by the United Way?

People are not turned down by United Way. The agencies that United Way funds may turn down an individual for assistance if they do not meet specific criteria. Or the service or program may not be available in that particular county. If a person is turned down for services from an agency and disagrees with the reason, it is important they let their UW know. The situation will be investigated.

How do I make a donation to United Way?

Donations can be made several different ways. Many companies and industries provide the opportunity to donate through payroll deduction or direct donations to United Way. Donations can be made directly to United Way outside of the work place by calling the United Way office at 937-592-2886. Credit Cards are accepted.
